Well today wouldn't have happened without friends from this site. My friend, his 9yo son, Kzoo & I have been slowly dialing in the coho on the lower Duwamish in my friend's new boat for the past month. The last few outings we have fished plugs, so when offered to go out again today I only brought my plug rod. We met up at 6am and headed to the area we've been fishing and the gas guage on the boat suddenly drops from 1/2 tank to less than 1/4 tank. We went ahead and motored up a ways and discussed what we wanted to do. We didn't want to run out of gas, so we either headed back to the ramp now, got gas, and came back, of we anchored up and did some casting.

Just as the sky started to lighten, the fish woke up and started jumping. We decided to try casting a bit. I tried casting my Penn reel but it just wasn't happening. Luckily Kzoo brought an extra spinning reel. I decided to try a Dick Nite after reading oneshot's success with them in the same area a couple days before. I had a bunch of Dick Nites but never caught more than a couple little trout on em. Tied one on and started casting. About 5 casts in BAM fish on.. cookie cutter hen, netted & bonked... Hmm these little things actually work. Next Kzoo hooks up with a plug. Then a few minutes later I am reeling in and I get slammed HARD. I get the word "FISH" out as line peels, then he jumps and Kzoo says "it's a King", I keep fighting it, he peeled line, jumped, dove, went around the boat, went under the boat, did everything he could to avoid us, but finally tired enough to get a decent look at him. Whaddaya know - Coho! Big enough it didn't fit in the cooler!

That changed everyone up to Dick Nites for the rest of the morning. Kzoo had the hot spot on the boat landing one on a plug, losing two and passing two fish off to our friend's son to reel in. Between those, the sculpin and three flounder we had a pretty non-stop morning. Total of 4 hens and one big ol buck, all chrome with sea lice. At 11:30 we called it a day and headed in just as the nets were ready to be deployed.

So today I went out on one friend's boat, used another friend's rod & reel, and caught fish on the report of a 3rd friend. Pretty cool stuff.. hope I can return the favors!

I forgot to add, my 3 1/2 year old daughter got up on a stool in the kitchen and "helped" me cure eggs and clean fish today... The master plan is coming together nicely..

Great report Gringo Pescador! Thanks for the pictures. Sounds like an amazing time fishing. Bet you can't wait until your baby can cast a line with you.

Nice fish!! It took me a long time to warm up to Dick Nites but once you figure them out you are hooked.....and lots of fish sometimes. Wish the Snohomish coho would wake up........

Nice haul! After losing a few DNs trying to drift them like a corkie and yarn, I have not gone back to try them. To much $ into the rocks. Must have been doing wrong.

10.5# cleaned, got one a couple years ago that was 12# cleaned, thought sure this guy was more. Even weighed it on two scales (1 spring & 1 digital) to be sure.

This is what I really like about Walakes. Different guys (and/or gals) getting together and having a great time on the water. I had been offline taking care of some family stuff and see you guys found fish! Nice job all around guys :-) That sounds like a fun fishing trip/excursion for all. Hopefully Mr 9 year old has some big grins and big memories from the trip! PS- I say if there's an open seat on the Duw for y'all next trip, bentrod should get an honorary trip for the time and reports he has put in ;-) Just my opinion... Thanx for the report and glad to hear several of you found fish in the same trip.
