So after getting spooled this morning on the Green was anxious to hit the Puyallup again for some pink action. I had my produce specialist with me so we finished up work in Fife about 5pm and made a bee line to the river! I didn't want to take the time to re-spool my reel so grabbed my 7' lamiglas rod we headed up stream. We found a spot where you had to wade into the middle of the river and of course, forgot our nets so it was challenge to get the fish in once hooked so I had on a nice chrome pink hooked right in the mouth and looked like a fat female, so was trying to get it next to my body to grab it when I heard 'snap'!! Crap! Broke my rod in half! So with my rod bent in half I made my way to the bank with fish in tow; was a pretty funny sight as he kept making a few runs and had to pull him back to me with a rod bent in half.

Long story short, just as I got to the bank he shook loose and now I was pissed as at least I would have something to show for a broken rod. Walked all the way back to my truck and now took the time to re spool my reel and went back down to try my luck again; this time I went to a closer hole that had beach access so I could land my fish easier. Went back to my silver set up I used earlier on the Duwamish and after a few cast got my 1st pink on the bank. Hooked a few more backwards and then hooked into a nice hooked nosed silver and he vaulted into the air and headed downriver. Was able to get him back but my heart sunk when I saw he was hooked in the dorsal fin. After some river CPR was able to send him back on his way. Hooked up numerous more and left with 2 pretty bright pinks and a guy above got a nice 10lb silver; nice folks who asked my what I was using so showed them and a few minutes later their 10 year old son got his first fish!! It was cool! He was so excited it made the whole day worth it!

Anyway, got my new motor today so that is why I also rated this a 5 and can't wait to get her on the water this weekend!

Sorry to hear about one of your many mishaps on the water this year. But glad to hear you we're willing to give out free advice to that father and son duo (I'm assuming) without referring them to YouTube or web forums.

Wow, two mishaps in one day! Sorry again Barry. You certainly earned some points helping out the kid though. That is a great thing to see. Nice work. Hope things run smoothly from here on out.

Points for helping the kiddo indeed! It's hard a lot of times getting a little help out on the water when you're a new guy. I had a guy tell me to google it one time when I asked about his slip bobber setup last year. It can be seriously discouraging to be shun like that when you're trying so I'm confident that you made that little guys day. Sorry the rest of your day was a crap shoot. It just means that your next trip will have all kinds of happy good fishy karma on it :)
