Still new to salmon fishing and still have yet to nab one. Went to the Sky solo after work last night. Found a secluded spot where they were jumping like crazy, but still no luck. My pink jig with prawn was floated right in their faces, but no bite. A Dick Nite got a few hits that I couldn't set. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, since it sounds like they're jumping into nets all over the place.
Still, have to give the trip a 2. Just love being out there with the mergansers(?), geese, jumping pinks and a very curious beaver. I will not be deterred!
PS - I love the cleanup idea! I'm out of town then but would love to participate at the next opportunity.

try Drifting the Dick nights with a 3/8 oz weight and a 36 inch leader.

oh, and just skip the bottom of the holes. you should feel the bottm at least 4 times during the retrieve

I have just one advice: copy what others are doing.
First, pay attention who around you is catching the most fish. Then check what they are using, the length of the leader, the whole setup. Where are they casting, how fast are they reeling in? Just copy everything and you will soon catch fish as well.

FIVE to SIX foot leader is all I hear the top rods say when talking about casting Dick Nites on the Snohomish for pinks/coho. Also this online seminar on Dick Nites might help: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJnjT3cpdU0

Slow retrieve should get those fish to hook up. Dicks don't need a lot of speed or action to work. Pinks in the Sky are preparing to spawn and will bite less usually. Try a bit of scent and a real slow retrieve.
