Had my best trip ever fishing off the river - I've put in soooo many days and hours over the last 5 years, many of them fruitful. With the pinks this year, I have had the chance to be THAT GUY that walks up and has a hookup in the first 10 minutes, when everyone else is getting blanked. Yes, its pinks, but hey, don't rain on my confidence - fun is fun.

Today - hit the Tualco road hole at 6:30 with friend Jason. We both had hookups early. Then things slowed down and we tried a different stretch of river. Eventually went back to tried and true spots and landed one on a pink head, white body smallish jig. Went 3 for 7, and Jason landed 2 for 4. Thank you to the brother fisherman who came in and punched his limit in 30 mins, but was kind enough to leave a jig behind - it caught 3 more fish with Jason and me. Almost limited but got off on my last cast.

People say "the fish are too dark" - maybe they are in some spots. I brought home 2 hens and a buck, and they were silver turning green, not too humped out, but still well worth taking home. We had a salmon dinner tonight, and yeah, pinks are no sockeye, coho, or King, but darm it, this is still salmon we are talking about. Eat up!

For floating jigs, everyone has pink with maybe a white head. I have seen pink and white 50/50, or pink head with white body out fish all pinks 3 to 1. Maybe add a little more white to the pink. White yarn will do it - tie a yarn scarf around the jig neck. Also tipped all hooks with a red power bait egg (Gulp brand?).

Power bait, innovative! Just keep changing....part of the ability to catch them is the technique too, twitching is real effective, but certain times the fish want slow twitch, others times a bit more, and sometimes they react better to just the floating jig-folks that experiment like you catch more fish! I am binging a family relative to the Sky in a week with his fly rod for catch and release pinks, hope we still have a bunch!
I had not used a Dick Nite in 4 yrs out there-tried it last week and was hammering them, probably because I was the only one doing it...
