Started the day in search of Chinook with plans to switch to Steelhead as the day wore on. A friend and I started at 5am and fished multiple locations from Monroe to Reiter. We both took two rods, one loaded for drift fishing bait (tried prawn, roe, and tuna belly), and the other loaded for float/jig. Everything below Reiter was DEAD. We didn't touch or see any fish all morning and didn't see the guides in the boats hitting anything either. Everyone we spoke to on the bank told the same story. Nothing happening. Our plan was to finish at Reiter thinking by mid-day/afternoon the crowds would have thinned some and we'd at least find some place in the drift to cast. At noon there wasn't one spot available...at least that either of us felt comfortable squeezing into. We watched the show for a while. For all the people we only saw a few fish on the bank, so it didn't seem like it was worth waiting around for and left within the hour. We hit up one more spot down by Sultan on the way home, but the story was the same. Quit at 2:30 without so much as a hit or even seeing a fish caught. Disappointing day.
