My mom has been wanting to come fish the Duwamish with me for a couple years now, one year she had her hip replaced, the next it was her knee. Finally my new and improved Bionic mom was ready to go! Back in the early 60's she used to work for Boeing in the area and my dad worked for and owned shops along the river as well, she'd spent many years seeing the river from the bank so she was as much interested to see the sites as to fish.
My brother and BlueRock came along for the ride as well.
We launched at high tide (10am) and as we were pulling in I talked to one boat pulling out with 3 in the boat they got 5 fish so hopes were high. It was a sunny day with a constant cool breeze which made it just right.
We started out trolling upstream, 1 line diver/flasher/hootchie, 2 lines diver/spin & glow/eggs, & 1 line maglip plug. Switched out the diver/flasher/hootchie for a brads wiggler at the South Park bridge and it got one hit, but didn't stick.
Once we got up to the Boeing bridge we pulled up lines and motored upstream and around the corner where we anchored up and started floating eggs. My brother C&R'ed a 12" trout fairly quickly then about an hour later my mom's line starts singing COHO! Mom's not too steady on her feet (especially in tha rocking boat) so she fought the fish while I held her and Bluerock handled the net. before you know we had one cookie cutter buck in the boat and bonked. That was it for the whole rest of the day. We fished until high tide (3pm), then tossed Dick Nites and trolled back to the launch. Saw only 2 other fish caught all day and probably 1/4 of the fish jumping as the last outing.
All in all it was a good trip, mom got to catch her 1st river salmon and tell us about the area and how it used to be, and I got to catch up with my good friend Bluerock. Just wish there had been more fish in the boat (oh well).
