I cannot believe what happened today. Started off around noon and as the sun was starting to go down I called it a day having landed about 6 chum. However, the good fishing was hardly what made today so crazy. After hitting the road I was about halfway home on highway 18 and realized my rod wasn't with me... The last thing I remembered was leaning it against the truck and then it hit me. I drove off and left my nicest setup, a Loomis 1263c/Calcutta D combo, lying in the parking lot back at Metzler park. At this point I had just about $#!% my pants and immediately headed back to the park. After what seemed like forever I finally arrived and it was pretty dark. I couldn't find my rod but after looking around for a bit I noticed a piece of paper on a dead chum carcass someone had left there. It read, "I have your fishing rod. If you want it back call with the rod and reel you had." At that point a huge weight had been lifted off my back and I called the guy back and in 10 minutes him and his buddy were there with my rod. I couldn't believe how much I lucked out having two people find the rod who were genuine enough to find its owner, as they could have easily made off without a hitch. After they left I regretted not giving them something to show my appreciation like $20 to grab a bite on the way home or something. People are amazing and I'll be forever thankful of those two gentlemen!!!!

Good for you! Now how can we figure out a way to get these guys a $20 bite to eat on you? ;-) Nice to read a positive end to what could have been a sad day. Thanks!

Glad you got your gear back. That had to be a sick feeling. Kudos to the honest helpful guys who found it!

I did the same thing last week. Drove off and left pole on side of truck. Another guy saw me drive off and took my pole back down to the creek and gave it to a friend of mine. He called me and I got the pole back. Never did find out who the person was.

That's one of the perks I love about fishing. Once you get away from the snaggers it gets to be a pretty close knit group. Gotta love how fishermen watch out for eachother.

That's probably the best report I've heard on the site. Let's hope karma takes care of those guys

Great story! I've found a lot of the locals that fish that area & the carbon are very cool home-boys. Glad you got your gear and I also hope their Karma is returned 10-fold!

I think everyone has had this happen to them at least once. I did it on the Skykomish several years ago and developed a habit which has not allowed it to happen again. Whenever I approach my car after fishing I lean my rod on my driver side rearview mirror. Impossible to drive off with your rod there......tight lines.

I would have done the same thing they did, would rather make someone's day than take something that was not mine, what a great story. It is easy to get negative out there, but most guys on the river are good people.

Great to hear that you got your gear back but unfortunately for me it wasn't the same. I was at the Blue Creek Hatchery on the Cowlitz River a few weeks ago. Forgot my pole and left., when I got to H-12 and realized it by the time I got back, it was gone. No nothing, gone almost a grand set-up. I had a St. Croix Legend Elite 10'4", 6-12 lbs Rod with a Shimano Sustain 4000FG Series. Not my day

Wow that's a nice setup... Wouldn't dream of running off with that knowing how much someone put into it
