Got a late start this morning arriving at the river at 9:30 or so and was fishing by 10. Sun was out and a little too bright to my liking but was very warm so couldn't complain. Started off slow with the sun hitting the water hard. Normally not a problem in my experience but this morning was extra bright it seemed like. The sun was going to head behind some trees so I let the slot I was fishing settle for a few minutes while I took a little break. Sun went behind the tree line and created the shade I was looking for and within 5 casts had this nice buck take my jig. Amazing how I fished this slot for over an hour in bright sunshine and as soon as the sun left it was game on. Fought pretty well and after a few minutes got him to shore and busted out the catch record card. Measured 27" and estimate it to be around 6, maybe 7 lbs. Don't have to work tomorrow so going to take a mini trip and head out to the cascade for a change of scenery and really start off my steelhead season.

Nice report! Great bit of info there; letting your drift take a rest and waiting for the shadows to come.

Awesome fish man! I'll be heading to the cascade as well tomorrow. I'll be wearing a seahawks beanie if you want to say hi!

Recently moved to the Northwest from the east coast am wanting to get my pole wet! I missed salmon run and heard of the steel head in the Cascade river. What is the approach and set up I need to be successful for a catch to bring home for dinner? Any advice welcomed

Sorry I missed ya. I would have said hi if I would have seen your post last night. Nplinville the best advice I can give you is to do some research. I could write a novel on things that I have learned over the years and it came from research and being on the water. Trial and error is the name of the game if you are just starting out. Good luck.

Thanks tframe! I just read your post for today. I am looking forward to this weekend more and more! I hope to be out there early on cascade Saturday. Will have on fsu cap if anyone is there! Did pick up a couple jigs and floats today though. Noticed that the jigs seem pretty simple and may start making my own. Thank you for advice and will do! Happy catching and good luck fishing!
