Well, it was two seasons in the making, but I finally managed to catch my first north sound river Coho today. I've caught Coho in numerous other places, but the north sound rivers have proven to be more of a challenge for me when it comes to Coho than any other place.

Starting off early, jonb and I headed down to the river to take advantage of the good early morning egg bite. I started with drifting and he started with floating, and we both began getting hits immediately. Not having drifted just eggs for a while, I was being a bit too reserved in deciding when to set the hook and when to not, but it was evident that the fish were liking them. Meanwhile, jonb managed to land a jack and another Coho at around 3#, both of which he kept. Eventually I decided to switch to floating also and got a little bit of interest in my offerings, but by that point the egg bite had really dropped off. Note for next time, those fish like to take eggs as light as a trout.

After switching over to a 1/4oz purple and black hand tied maribou jig I finally managed to hook and land my first Snohomish Coho. A little later Djbutler strolled up and we all fished for a bit longer, but decided it was time to move on to some different waters in search of less stale fish. By this point I had worked the blue/purple/black/white jigs pretty good, so I decided to mix it up and go with pink and black. We hadn't been at our new location for long before another jack hits, which I decide to keep, and yet another jack hits which self released after I landed it and was contemplating keeping it or not.

Moving on further still I hit a stretch of water that I had scouted the previous week and looked good to me. Twitching near the top of the water to keep my jig out of the snags I managed to hook and land a nice and bright 3.5# fish, ending my limit for the day. Meanwhile, jonb was working the water with a purple rabbit fur jig when he hooked and landed his last fish, dime bright and about 3#.

The fish were definitely on the bite today and were interested in lots of different things. 5 star day due to finally getting my first north sound coho, combined with a limit for both of us.

While I got skunked. You guys had it down today. I lost so much gear. I'm on to the big lake for coho and maybe the Sky if the rain continues.
