Had an amazing two day rafting trip on the Lower Grande Ronde River. Put in at Boggan's and took out a few miles up from the mouth. Hard to keep track of the number of fish we caught when they hit on every cast. Biggest Fish was 16.5 inches. Had a lot of 12-14 inchers. River is just loaded with Smallmouth Bass. Even caught one with a IDFG Floy Tag. I recorded the number and sent it to them on their tagged fish page. I'm curious to hear where it was tagged at. Our guess is it was likely tagged somewhere on the Snake River. I've heard some biolgists say that Smallmouths are taking over the Northwest. I certainly agree with them when you can find them almost anywhere. The world is changing and so are the fish assemblages. Make the best of it and throw a line for them.

And here I thought you were using an IDFG Floy Tag as a lure. lol

Haha, Thanks Amx. I should have included the lures we used. Just typical Smallmouth stuff. Curly tail grubs on 1/8 oz Jigheads, and some 3 inch tubes. They were so aggressive that they probably would have hit a Floy tag.

We took a float trip down the Grande Ronde two June's ago, right after the river opened in the spring. It was crazy wild! I've never had fishing like that before. Absolutely beautiful country! Saw rams on our way out there. Saw a bear on the rivers edge. We hooked up with double and triple headers multiple times. It was an 8 hours float and there was no way to count the fish we caught. Many were smaller with the big fish around 4 pounds but not many even close to the 3 pound mark. Average fish was, probably, 1 to 1.5 pounds. But the numbers made up for the lack of quality. It was a great trip!

Glad you had fun! That river is a blast!

Can this river be floated in a kayak and are there places to pull off and camp? Sounds like a fun river.
