On Friday my friend Grant and I decided to try some sturgeon fishing. With a break in the weather that day we ventured out in the morning. There were whitecaps on the Columbia and the wind was blowing my RIB sideways. But we were able to fish by hold our rods instead of having them in the rod holders.

We have been fishing for an hour and suddenly I got a bite and another little bite. I quickly set the hook and my pole tip was in the water. I was ready to hand off my rod to Grant, but the fish was coming towards the boat. As I was reeling in the sturgeon decided to show itself and jumped out of the water. Grant grab the rod and the fight was on. He had to adjust to my left handed reel and the sturgeon peeled off 60 lb. Tuff line. Grant thought the 8'6" Lamiglas rod was going to break ( using my salmon rod) but she held it together.

After missing tailing it with the tailer, the sturgeon went off another run. Finally, we got it tailed with the Brad's tailer. It measured out to a good 46". Not bad for a first Sturgeon and for a dark and stormy day on the water.

Rip some lips!
