Howdy, Went to Chief Joe dam and went up to the lower pens. Spent four nights in Peteros and made the drive to the launch and fished three days from morning till dark, Mon thru weds, drove back on thurdsay.. Had a blast.. Lost four or five at the boat. All the fish caught were over 9 pounds.
It was fun. Met some nice locals. There were three of us on this trip.. Those big ones are tough. The fight doesnt start till after they have been on for a couple mins Once they saw the boat and the net the fish didnt want anything to do with that.. They were a tough fish to bring in..

hey! Quadfather... the tip from the local guy who fishes it like a nun going to church.... is current.. There needs to be water moving out of the dams. And he told me when I arrived sunday and made the drive, but didnt start fishing until monday. He says the dams are not needed to service the big cities. So the water is a couple feet higher and practically no current. He says he cant buy a bite when these weekend conditions. Im sure there are thoughs that argue.. Who cares.. It will be a long time before I'll go back there.. It cost a few bucks to make a trip like that.. The boat travel is 50 miles per day. It was a great experience. The local boys say....... fish the weekday when there s lots of current..

Been fishing rufus for a long time and that is absolutely correct. No current and you really gotta work for 'em. Full pool and some good current and it can be unbelievable.

I too have caught fish in summer but they are usually smaller and sluggish. They taste okay smoked in summer but that's about it. I have a lot of areas to fish in summer so do not hit Rufus as much. Winter we get a lot more limited and so Rufus is a good local lake. Plus I usually fish with a good friend and that's all that matters anyhow right.
