Long time reader, first time to post a report. All I can say is I'm sure glad I live in the great N.W. because the fishing and hunting here is awesome. Anyway a good friend and I went fishing, we launched at lincoln at 7:00 am and preceeded to head to one of our favorite spots to fish for walleye, one of my personaly favorite fish to eat.
We used 1/4 oz. jigs with chartreuse skirts with a stinger hook. I have tried blade baits with no success, probably operator error. Well we use the kicker to control the boat as we do a slow back drift while we jig, trying to stay vertical it works well as long as you don't have to deal with to much wind, which we thankfully didn't. The morning started out good catching walleye right of the bat and cotinued throughout the day. The bonus was we were catching beautiful fat rainbows of the bottum too. We use orange or pink on the jig (head or skirt) I think that might attract the trout.
So we ended up limiting out on both species by noon. Thats a first for me considering I wasn't there for the trout, but man they are fat and healthy, good fighters to. Sorry no pic. My friend took some shots I will see if can get them from him and post them.

Be safe and good luck to all.

We usually target 35 to 45 fow, it is easier to control your jig and you have a better chance of c/r the fish as to fishing at deeper depths which is much harder on the fish as you bring them to the surface. The weather was ideal to, about 30 degrees, overcast and some fog with no wind. The water temp. is 35 degrees so the walleye are not real aggressive but the bite should pick up as the water temp. comes up and the fish start fattening up for the spring spawn.

I have never caught walleye before, but these latest reports are really interesting, and I want to catch some of these. I was at Roosevelt yesterday trolling for trout. Do you find the walleye first by fish finder then drop the jigs down? That was my plan yesterday, troll around, but if I graphed anything on the bottom, stop and drop some jigs. Didn't see anything except for fish between 17' depth and surface which I'm assuming were trout.

I fish for eyes year around because they are so good to eat, are really easy to fillet and have a lot of meat on them. RWL I have found that the eyes seem to hold up in deeper water but don't seem to bite. I mark them on my sonar at 60 fow or deeper, but I have found that most of my success catching them has been in shallower water ( 30-40 fow) My guess is that they hang out in the deeper water, but come up to the shallower depths to feed because that is where the bait fish tend to be, at least in the winter months. They can be tricky to catch because they don't hit your hook hard, When your jigging for them they will hit your hook a lot of times as it falls back down to the bottom and then as you pull back up on your pole you will feel some tension on your line, thats when you set your hook. there not real big fighters either unless you hook a big one. It is feels almost snag a branch or something of the bottom as you reel in. It is not like catching a trout, especially a Roosevelt trout they fight good. I hope that helps a little.
