Took a friend up to Roosevelt yesterday to share my birthday with on the water. We launched at Seven Bays about 11am and headed downstream from Lincoln. We spent the whole outing in that area.

We always have a friendly wager on who will catch the first fish, and my friend usually does, but not yesterday. I put the first in the cooler, and followed that with a real beauty, a 21 1/4", 3 1/2lb native rainbow.

We retained 8 really nice rainbow along with two standouts, my friend with a 19" 2lb, 10oz carryover 'bow and me with the native. It was a great way to spend my birthday!

All fish came on leaded line out 150' (roughly 3 1/2 colors) with either a Trick R Treat Frisky Jenny or a Kekeda. The orange Kekeda accounted for big native in the cooler (thanks Dave!). We were tipping the trailer trebles with bait, my friend using grubs and I was using chunks of worm. I also pulled a Rip'n Minnow at 195' back and it wasn't touched all day.

We drift trolled with the wind and speeds were 2.8 - 3.5mph. Water surface temp hovered between 39.9° - 40.2°. It was overcast part of the day, but sunny at one end of our drift/troll. The ride up was foggy all the way until we dropped down near the cutoff road. Unfortunately, the fog was a lot heavier on the return trip necessitating slow and careful driving.

Beautiful fish, seems you have Roosevelt dialed in. I need to get up there soon and get my fishing fix.

Happy Birthday Phil! Nice fish, will be going up tomorrow and will post up how we did. It's been a while since I caught one over 20; I'm about due though.

Hey Phil, Happy Birthday ! What a way to spend your birthday being on the water and catching nice fish. I passed you yesterday about 1 pm headed back to the launch at Lincoln, thought that might have been you. I was in my black and silver Hewes jet, we were coming back from White stone. We got our limits, but seemed a little slower than normal for me. Headed back Saturday with the grandkids, thinking about putting in a Keller. I think the fish are starting to move down stream with the draw down. Will stop a say hi next time !

Thanks guys. Roosevelt is truly my favorite place to wet a line. The scenery there is really hard to beat and the fishing is some of the best in the state IMO.

Alan - It had been quite a while since I put one over 20" in the cooler, but guess it was fitting yesterday. :-)

Charlie I remember your boat going by, but didn't know it was you. Most certainly stop by and give a shout next time!

I shot some GoPro video yesterday, but will have to work on my setup. I had a couple decent ones so maybe after I upload to youtube I'll see if Mike can embed them.

Good fishing to all of you!!!
