We decided to hit the Kettle area this weekend. We launched out of Marcus Island campground, not the most user friendly launch by-the-way, and headed upriver tp the green buoy by Evans. We worked the rock piles and channel with jigs and never had a bite. We crossed over to the other side to work the end of the flat on the Evans side with jigs and again never had a bite. The jig bite wasn't working so we diceded to do some trolling with worm harnesses. We trolled both of the bays across from Evans varying between 20-60 FOW and never had a bite. Next we decided to troll the Marcus side down to the launch and were once again skunked. Well this was not turning out to be the kind of day we were looking for and the wind was now starting to pick-up quite a bit. While we were trolling near the end of the Marcus island Glenn got us a little too shallow and what do you know but I got a double on both of my spinners. We decided to try that again and picked up a few more eyes and now the wind was really starting to blow. Figures once you find a good area mother nature says not so fast I am really going to make you work for it. We made a few more passes and picked up an eye every so often. The white caps helped us decide to go up the Kettle so off we went. We motored up to the second bridge where we jigged the supports and never had a bite. We then trolled back down stream on the right hand side where Glenn picked up two, they were both in areas with a mudline in about 25 FOW. We then headed back to Marcus to the same area and trolled up another couple of eyes but by this time Glenn was starting to feel a little green. He was spending too much time watching his Lowrance and trying to keep us on the emerging weedbed that the white caps were finally getting to him. The tally for the day was 12 eyes, we kept 11 that were between 16-19 inches. I only has one bite all day on a jig, at least I boated that fish, everything else came on spinners in 22-27 FOW on an emerging weedbed. Yellow spinners were the best color all day.
