10/15/2014 10:15:00 AMI hope we can go out next week as I think it might be a little early for the big carry-overs to get to our "HOT SPOT". I think the water temp. has to drop a bit cooler for the big ones to move in there. One thing for sure is the fishing is only going to get better as we progress into the winter months, we who fish Roosevelt know only to well that the fishing will be very good as it gets colder. Wish I could have gone with you and Gary but just could not get away. TIGHT LINES TO ALL. Terry

Amen to that Terry and thanks to brother #1 for the report. I will be chasing them the end of the month and hope to find some carryovers among the catch. :-)

We hope to camp and fish out of Fort Spokane sometime around Thanksgiving depending on the weather is on the pass. Thank you also hewesfisher for the info you were willing to share. 10/16/2014 1:07:00 AMI fished split rock all the way down to the mouth of hawk creek for 5 days last week.I was really surprised the amount of holdovers we boated.The action was never the same at one particular place it changed from day to day.Leadcore with jerkbaits seemed to seal the deal best for the big-uns

10/16/2014 11:22:00 AMThanks Yakivegas for that info, we would run almost the same area as you decribed for several years and was always our go to spot depending on time of year etc. Maybe we need to take somemore interest in it again now that the water is cooling down. What was the size and length of some that you boated? In that area we always stayed in 60 to 70 FOW almost always with great success. Thanks again for your comments ( Two Brothers #1 ) Ron.

10/16/2014 1:52:00 PMThis is really my first "serious" season pounding the waters of Roosevelt. I've had reasonable success although I've not been on the water in the late fall or winter. What are the surface water temps out in the main reservoir when the 'bows seem to pick up activity? I suppose I'm looking for a temperature trigger as opposed to a time of year....it's been an odd year in almost every water I've fished. Hewesfisher has told me that they come up from the depths and frequent the top 20 or so FOW but I'm curious if anyone has noted the surface temps.

10/16/2014 6:53:00 PMI'm not one to remember all those temps all these years , but my guess is around mid to upper 40's to mid 50's . I think the one to ask would be Hewesfisher for his comment on that. I really should be able to tell you that but right now its not comming to me. The colder the better and you can't go wrong. 10/17/2014 10:46:00 AMIt has been our best fishing with the temps hovering around 43--48 degrees . But you can never just go by the temp. as some of our fishing trips it can be a very nice warm day and have many nice fish to bring home. If you can find where the the bait (zoo-plankton) is at you can have a very good day fishing. Some of the fish we catch will just have their mouths full of it at times. Its just a very wonderful place to fish year round, just better when the water temp is lower. We have been out when the temp was -04 in Wilber when we went thru town and probably about -08 on the water. I know my Sportsman had about 3/4 inch of ice on it when we pulled it out of the water, but had plenty of fish. SnoKing Hope you get it dialed in this year. TIGHT LINES TO ALL. TERRY

I'm heading over there on the 26th and will most likely launch out of Two Rivers Marina, but head south based on the tip that the 'bows are most likely following the feed south although the first afternoon we get there late so I'll go on up to split rock and see how the luck goes. Two Brothers Fishing...you have a stout soul and large ones if you're on the water at -08!!!

10/19/2014 8:18:00 AMOnce surface temp is 57° or below the action moves up top and when it does I work the surface exclusively and the downriggers are removed from the boat. When surface temps are in the upper 30s to low 40s, the 'bows will be in the top 15' - 10' of water. Really looking forward to some time at Roosevelt the end of the month. No need to head south, they will be all over from Split Rock downstream. Me, I just like to see the scenery, and have a few favorite spots below Seven Bays, so that's probably where I'll be. :-)

Phil, you need to blow off the chores at your cabin and succumb to the scenery/fishing. I have a string of chores long and impressive but I can fabricate as many excuses necessary to make time.

10/21/2014 7:20:00 AMSnoKing - Motor chores (annuals due) cannot wait, but everything else can. I'll miss, maybe, one day out of the week due to motor service but plan to be on the water every day I can. Wife's schedule has her tied up in Spokane through Wednesday, so will be launching solo with my lab puppy until Thursday. You did send a picture of your boat so I know to watch for you. :-)
