Many salmon fishermen gave up too early due to thw fact that their favorite fishing program wasn't very effective since the middle of September. The water temps have been over 63 all season. What happens after the two hour trolling bite is done in the morning? I learned the hard way for a few days..I watched several guide boats catch fish while the average fisherman could only watch. The problem with the water flow this year at Vernita is that it is being turned on early every day from Monday through Friday. High flows are bad for flashers and super baits. The problem with low flows and trolling flashers and super baits or herring on the weekend is that the water temps are too high to get fish to bite in most h lies. What is the solution? Back troll eggs and plugs in slow and fast water. Eggs are working in slow water as long as your jet diver can go down 30 feet. Yes 30 feet. The fish are glued to the bottom in deeper water this year. Some fish are caught in normal egg water, but this year is very strange.

I took a customer out yesterday to practice deep water egg and plug back trolling and we pulled out 4 really nice fish from 18 to 25 pounds. We didn't start fishing until 11am. The mid day bite has been excellent in the deep holes at the reach if you have eggs and plugs working. You need the big jet divers to get down. Two of the fish cut red inside and two were turning. The season isn't over. Most of the fishermen have quit.

Give me a call for a late season tune up and have a blast catching some quality fish.

Enjoy Hanford
