We got on the water about 7:30 am. We would have been on sooner but there was a glacier and a lot of sand on the ramp we and the two other trucks and trailers were trying to traverse at Porcupine to get to the water. Wow the water is down! The ramp and dock at Porcupine have been ignored or forgotten this year, unlike years before where the dock has been lowered with the water level.

Once on we headed upriver to see if we could find some Burbot. We made it above buoy 5 and started jigging with worms and shark meat, but alas, no Burbots were to be found. My friend Markopath boated a nice eye and shortly after I boated a really nice wild brown. The brown went back after returning my lure and posing for a quick picture.
Markopath boated another big eye and we decided to drift downriver after a quick beach break.

On our beach break, we found a boat someone left behind/lost above buoy 5 sometime around 2001. (we didn't see that there this time last year)

During our drift Back we had lots of bites and a couple of good takedowns but couldn't seem to set a hook. There were only two other boats above Porcupine that we saw, and things looked slow for them as well.

While we were pulling the boat out and getting things cleaned up, Markopath talked to the guys from YJ Guide Service, and they said the Burbot just didn't seem to be there this year.

I gave this trip a rating of 4 even though the bite wasn't constant because we had a great time, caught some really quality fish, it was great to be back on the Spokane Arm after all that hard water had kept us off, and the weather was great.

actually the fish were there the arm was just frozen is what she meant. You will still catch one or two here or there fishing jigs for walleye. The spawn is over on the arm for them and they are on their way back down the river..

Are those Burbot in the photo with the dollar bill? If they are those are some nice sized ones.

Those are walleye with the dollar bill. :-)

Pretty sure that's the first brown trout I've ever heard of being caught there, even in the arm.

2-4 ft of visibility but still a fair amount of debris, milfoil, etc. making its way downriver.

On 3/1917 visibility was about an inch, even up above buoy 5. Much worse than it was last Sunday, so much silt in the water.
