Fished below Lower Granite Dam Friday through Sunday for Sturgeon. Turned into a awsome trip, we landed five fish.Three of the fish were between 42'' and 45'', shakers. Now I know why the are called shakers. The feeling from those fish on your line is a skaky experience and they are very fast. Two of the fish were 53'' and 56'' and they seemed a lot more powerfull than the fish we played with down at Central Ferry a couple of weeks ago.

We learned from a gentleman exactly what to do after missing numerous fish. Friday we caught one fish casting from shore using Sturgeon Candy, but it would get picked clean off you hook fairly quickly (even tied on). After we ran out of Sturgeon Candy we used whole smelt. Smelt got a lot of hits and misses. We could not figure out what was going on until a gentleman told us to cut the tails of the fish to keep them on the bottom. Why I aked, he said the Sturgeon eat the fish head first so you whant to bait up backwards. With the hooks pointing towards where the tial was. This slight modification turned Saturday into a fairly busy day.

Note: We did hook into a really large fish Sunday morning and lost it a couple hundred yards down the river once it got in the current. Also most of the action was early in the day. I am returning as soon as possible.

Thanks for the report Eustace. I'm from Spokane and fish for sturgeon alot down at Windust park below Lower Monumental. It's nice to hear about a location a little closer to home.

Is there a boat launch near Lower Granite?

Since you shared your trick, I'll share mine. We use fresh squid, but we smash up earth worms and stuff them inside the body of the squid and then cinch it up with nylon thread. Hook it with the tenacles facing down stream. Knocks 'em dead down at Windust. Good luck!

Gisteppo, I would but I am catching the extra seat myself.

Spinnerbait, Yes there is a boat launch at Boyer State park $4.00. Thanks for the Tip. I have not fished Windust yet but it looks like a cool place to be.
