Well now that I am getting around to it, my fishing trip last week was a blast. I caught 22 pike (biggest being 31 inches on a fish creek spinner which killed the bait after this fish) 2 white bass and a largie and lost a couple other fish. My dad caught about the same numbers wise except he caught a pure strain muskie after 5 casts into the trip (posted on muskie forum) as well as pike (biggest were 33"), white bass, largie, and a walleye that he gave to the fish grinder as it slipped out of his hands while cleaning it.

Also we found a 20+ pound catfish with a white bass in it's throat. Pulled it out and thought it was dead and put it back into the lake when we saw it's fine moving as it was floating. Tried to revive it, but thought it wasn't going to survive so I gave it one good push and down to the deep he went, but it never came back up...even after we passed by the same area 4 hours later....hopefully she made it.....

Had only 14 pike until the last day on the way back home we hit up Box Butte and we caught 17 pike (14 of which came in 1 hour and 20 minute time span). No biggin's out of this lake, just eaters witht he biggest being 23 inches. As it turns out as we were by the fish cleaning station a guy came off the lake and asked if we had seen the tornado that touched down about 1 mile north of us. I could barely see where it might have spawned and thought the guy was just mistaking blowing dust until I got into the truck and heard the tornado warning for our area.

Nice - Is this near Alliance? We have a family ranch south of Mullen and more family in Valentine. Heading over June 1st and will be fishing Merritt Reservoir for Walleye, Pike, Bass & cats. Any tips?

That is exactly where we fished. The pike seem to like spinners without fur. We did catch a couple on various other baits but the hot lure seemed to be the spinners. 3 to 5. Caught everything on those to include the bass and walleye, however I think there is a better way to get the walleye than the spinners. Everybody else we talked to seem to be having luck on spinnerbaits, but we maybe hooked 1 fish with them....talked to a few guys that tore the bass up with spinnerbaits. Maybe it was the weather that made things weird for us. Got hot very fast then cooled off pretty quickly.

Yeah the weather out there has been weird to say the least. Thanks for the tips - I know my family out there sticks pretty much to trolling worm harnesses for Walleye from the pontoon boat or anchoring up and drowning worms under bobbers while eating lunch. They always laugh when I show up with 3 or 4 rods and a big bunch of tackle. I have yet to get a pike, so I'll be trying for em again this time out.
