So i met up with a local fisherman ive fished with a few times here in bc. We were targetimg steelhead, bull trout and possibly sea run cutties. The water has been high the last few days and was on the drop. When we arrived in the morning we found that we only had maybe 15" of visibility... Not good... So we ventured further on... Eventually we found a tributary with 3ft of vis.... Much better... After fishing through a couple runs my friend connected with a nice fish and landed a 20" bull trout. On the next run he let me swing through first this time. On my 3rd cast, on the drop, i felt a thump, set the hook, i can see the beast writhing and head shaking, it made one run down stream and the hook popped out.. Ohh well... A little while later i hook up and land a skinny 15" bully. Next run i hook up again and land a much bigger, fat 22" bull trout, 4lb or so, id bet. As i was getting ready to have my pic taken the bull escaped my grasp and swam off before the pic got taken... Ohh well, plenty more where that came from. After this we decided to try yet another tributary, which had 4ft vis. it was getting late and this was the last run of the day. We walked to the top of the run and started fishing our way down. My friend hooked up twice and both came unbottoned, i started heading downstream and i noticed this one solitary fish sitting in 1ft of water, i call my friend over, we both agree that its a small 20"ish bull, so we start taking turns casting at it, sure enough by the 3rd swing through it turned at my friends spoon, then he casted again, this time it opened its mouth and snapped at it but missed. I swung my spoon through jusy perfectly and it CLOBBERED my spoon and started freaking, thrashing, darting towards some overhanging brush, i applied side pressure and turned its head away from the snags and it went balistic, tailwalking 20ft down the run, reel screaming, the most violent, ridiculous fight ive had all winter. It jumped made 6 30ft runs in a row, i finally got it near, tried to tail it, and it ripped 30ft of line of the reel, try again, same result. Finally on my 3rd try i successfully tail this beast, snap a couple pics and send ot on its way. My friend and i both tried fly fishing with only 1 bump and 1 follow to show for it, all our success came from swinging spoons. The hot spoon was a 2/5oz copper pline spoon.
