Today I was lucky enough to get out of work way early and get a couple hours in on the upper lake with my wife. We dont get out much just the two of us. So we went in search for some of these fat 13-15 inch Conconully Kokanee. These fish are going to bring a lot of attention with the size and quantity this lake is going to kick out this year.
The upper lake has a great double concrete boat launch with a dock and lots of parking. Discover pass required.
We started trolling just past the last house heading up lake and worked from there to the corner of the lake. It took a few attempts at the right combo to get both poles dialed in. Last time the larger Mack's DD dodger was the hot ticket but today it was not at all. I finally realized not only did it have to be pink tube fly not orange like last time and the smaller 4.4" dodger with about a 12 " leader. Same the gulp maggot worked good, but the pink Corn in bloody tuna and anise plus scent from Procure dominated. Speed was about 1.0-1.5.
Once I had it dialed it was hot action till I had a limit and it was time to get home before kids got home from school. Fished from noonish to just after 2pm

The lower lake holds 9-11 in class kokanee at least in years past. It's got two creeks that are all blown out dumping into it right now so I would think the upper lake is the place to be. The upper lake holds Palmer lake variety kokanee. I think it's different genetics than the lower lake.
