Left Northrup docks at Banks Lake around 7:00 am and hits the flats. Fished in water from 13 ft thru 31 ft using slow death rigs in a few different colors, but none seemed to get the bite going. Caught a few small bass and perch, but only one 10 inch walleye. Fished until about 9:30 when it was getting hot. Water temp was around 75 degrees.

We also fished 8/3 out of Northrup, the past couple weeks have been a learning experience for us, we have always used bottom walker and slowdeath but this year seems different for some reason. On the recommendation of some friends we started trolling Flicker Shad crankbaits. We fish them as close as you can safely troll along the rock slides and cliffs of the northwest shore. A number 7 Flicker Shad trolled at 1.6 mph 130' behind the boat in water 8' to 20' produced very well for us, we ended the day with 12 walleye the smallest being 16" and 16 smallmouth ranging from 14" to 17", we also released at least 30 smallmouth that were less than 14". We did have to suffer the heat, we launched at about 7 am and fished until 3 pm. The fish are out there and biting we just had to change the way we have always fish for them and it has paid off in a big way for us. I hope this helps a little. Good luck

Thanks for the tip. Someone else had told me awhile back that if you want the big Walleye, you need to troll a lure. Guess I will have to try that.

Sorry, I mis spoke about the Bass we caught. All Bass released were 12" and under, the Bass that we kept were 12"to 17". I'm not sure what I was thinking when I wrote the first report, I caulk it up to age I guess.
