8/13/2017 9:52:58 AMI usually never see pinks jumping out in sound unless they are in a narrow and shallow part like deception pass or the mouth of rivers. As far as I could remember I always caught fish in the sound without seeing a single fish jump. With this years odd "shoreline only" in area 9 it's hard to get a better look at where the fish actually are.

8/13/2017 10:32:53 AMTheir parents were trying to spawn in 2015. Very little water and it was warm at that. Worst spawning and incubation conditions in decades. Don't expect a lot of Pinks.

8/15/2017 2:00:18 AMI am fishing whidbey. If you wanna see em jump go out to Bush point or lagoon point. I haven't been in the morning but the last two times I've been in the evening they start jumping two hours before sunset. But they aren't jumping crazy like a few years ago. At least not yet. Like everyone said, everything is running late this year by about 2-3 weeks. But it just rained too so that should help things get moving. I might go out today!

8/15/2017 1:42:49 PMI keep an eye on the state creel report and watch the numbers being caught in the strait. So far their are more coho being caught than humpies. Like cozmo4196 said the fish are late. The early runs go south of the island and the late run will go up and around the north of the island to enter the Skagit river. I hoping the small amount of rain we had will stir them up some.

8/16/2017 5:52:10 AMSalmon and rain: Rain does help wash the chemical “scent” of the watershed downstream, making it easier for returning adult salmon to navigate back to the streams where they were born. Rain also raises the level of rivers, which can help salmon travel into locations that are otherwise inaccessible during other times of the year. Google it.

8/16/2017 3:57:41 PMThat falls true for other species of salmon including steelhead but pinks are the exception. I agree all salmon use the rains to move further up river as water levels go up. I'm a steelhead angler also so know this very well, rains come river goes up and the fish move up, rain stops river levels drop and fish hold in holding hole and fishing gets good but these little guys are on a strict time schedule and if they don't find the river and look for spawning grounds they will die.

8/17/2017 6:42:12 AMThank you river hunter I did not know this. I do see what you're saying in the past when 8-1 was open I would catch some pinks already with big humps and narly hook noses around the beginning of September. Thanks again for the info.
