Weird day - they were SUPER active at sunrise down at the riffle, but not many biting. They were literally all around every boat, but I only saw a couple pulled in. I hooked 2 on a pink/white Dick Nite lure - one pulled under the boat, got leverage and got himself off. The 2nd one I thought I had bagged, but he headed toward the anchor line and I tried to hog him in and it broke my line. I finally landed one and Tim also did, but they were both up by the Hwy 9 bridge. Not a lot of people limiting today and we really had to work at it.

First photo is motoring downstream from the boat launch. 2nd photo was dinner tonight! I sautéed it with some Tony Chachere's seasoning topped with melted butter, fresh garlic and fresh lemon.

It's been a weird season for me. I'll get my limit one day, nothing the next. Take a couple days off then go out and get my limit in 30 minutes, then only get 1 fish the next day, and limit out the day after that. I haven't really found any consistency this year on weather, time of day, or tides. Seems you just have to get lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time.

It's not just about being in the right place at the right time....you're totally right that it's weird and inconsistent. I went yesterday 9/1. Had 2 hook-ups. One early morning when the river was running fast, I had a size 0 pink/white Dick Nite lure with a 1 oz. ball weight. Floated about 2 feet from the bottom without reeling (worked perfect at the speed the river was moving) and a bright, strong fish nailed it. Fought it a bit and it got off the hook. 2nd one was a humped up buck that was already pretty green. As soon as I said "that's not one I want", it got off the hook also. I put nothing in the cooler yesterday but my buddy Tim caught 2 nice bright hens and hooked a nice coho (at least it looked like one). We also saw a HUGE king jump out of the water a couple times. Darker than a coho and far too large to be anything else.
