My son and I hit Roosevelt today to see if the bigger rainbows would hit. We started at "A" rock across from Lincoln and ended at Sterling Point. The first troll along the rocks across from Lincoln to "A" rock yielded nothing. As soon as we started hitting the sand flats we were in to fish. They were holding tight to those sandy points in 20 to 30 feet of water. Our first fish was a chunky 15 incher. Nice, but we were after bigger. We kept fishing this pattern as we were catching fish. We ended up fishing for three hours with a few swimming/throwing rocks breaks to keep my son's legs stretched, and energy headed in the right direction. Tally for the day was eight trout. Two trout were 17" and biggest of the day was 18" and dwarfed the 17 inchers. This fish was thick! No wild trout today. Absolute blast to be out on Roosevelt with my oldest. By far his biggest fish so far.

We were fishing orange and olive Kekeda flies tipped with chunk of worm. The orange outfished the olive and had the biggest but both caught fish today. Lines were on the downrigger from 10 to 20 feet. Most productive seemed to be 12 feet. Trolling speed was 2.1 to 2.4

Good job DAD! Who is more proud, father or son?
Have you had a chance to use the line counter reel from the Chelan get together? Thanks for the report. Andy

Thanks Andy! Oh I was easily more proud of him than he was of himself. Today he drove the boat, helped me set lines, brought up downriggers, and helped load the boat on the trailer. It felt like our trip instead of me just "taking" him. Haven't had the chance to use the reel. How about you? The Daiwa working well? Take care! Dave

Hey Dave, the Daiwa got a good workout on a few Smallies. Looks like you've got a good First Mate there! Keep up the good work.

Nice report Dave, nothing better than father and son time, and fishing to boot! Your son is holding one nice 'bow. :-)

Thanks Phil. He's really growing up fast and with fish like that I'm hoping to get him hooked on fishing for the future. I'm looking forward to these kind of trips for many years to come.

Great to see a positive report for a change - have not been on the big lake for several months now, looking forward to next trip - will give you a
call for some good lures to enhance the experience as the old ones are getting pretty ragged - glad to see the younger one enjoying himself !!

Thanks, we really had a good time. Ragged flies are a good sign. It had been a while for us too and in years past we haven't had much luck until October for the bigger rainbows. Thought we'd give it a chance and got lucky with a few of the bigger ones.

Looks like a couple of keepers for sure in that one picture. Congrats! Looks like your air quality wasn't that bad either.

I think I'll keep him around! We got lucky with the smoke. Didn't notice it too much until we started driving home.
