I like to read reports on a lake before I fish it. Brianna Bruce posted some good suggestions. While my pink hoochies did not do much, the pink splatter dodger (Shasta) and the clown dodger (Macks) worked really well. I caught four kokes and one really nice trout.

After launching at the WDFW ramp, I checked out the south and west side of the island. While I saw some fish there, the only thing I was able to hook into were perch. I then trolled north of the island and did not see much. At that point I stopped fishing and started exploring the lake at about 5 mph for more fish marks on the fish finder. I found them on the northeast side of the lake and generally in the north end. At that point I started fishing again.

Three of the four kokes were big. I fished Lake Kachess the other week, and I would say that two of the larger kokes from American had more mass than all ten from Kachess. Kachess has scenic beauty and a lot of fish while American has much better size and is a very pleasant fishery.

I used a variety of lures. The trout hit a customized silver kokanee cut plug. I dolled it up with red and blue magic marker. Yep, I totally copied Sam Baird's design! Three of the four kokes hit on a silver and brass God's Tooth lure. Since I am not entirely sure God wants his teeth used to catch fish, I wish these lures had a name something like "Koke Krusher". Oh well, whatever the name they work. One koke was caught on a green and orange wedding ring. The bait was corn soaked in tuna oil.

Traffic southbound on I-5 before sunrise was light. However, going northbound around noon was quite a bit heavier. A good time for a cigar and coffee.

Tight lines!
