Went fishing on CDA yesterday on my kayak 10-30 till 2-30. Water temp 68f. Boated 8 10” Kokes off the downrigger at 50’ used a Macks Shuttle Hawk to save bringing the ball up every time lost 6. That worked v/well after some experimentation. Tackle was a Macks 4” DD silver dodger with a pink corn tipped green wedding ring 12” behind and Anise gell. When I headed back to the launch I tried without the pink corn and got no takes. Up until then I was getting hit practically as soon as I got my gear down to 45-50ft, so it seems the corn plays a big part in getting the bites. Could have limited out but I had some things to try out on the kayak at the ramp. I have the downrigger mounted to the Haka on my Tandem Island, which works very well.
It was a fun day.
Anyone think a snubber is a good idea, and in front or behind the dodger? I didn't use one and wondered if thats why I lost a few. I was using 6 lb mono and an Okuma Kokanee rod so plenty of flex.

Good job. With the soft mouth that kokes have I always use a snubber. Even with my kokanee rod. I don't have a downrigger so I run a banana weight (2-3 oz) with a snubber. 36 inch leader tied to the pop gear (dodger and spinner) works good. Caught a limit of kokes at Higgens point this past weekend

Thanks Joe. I think I'm going to use a snubber next time and see how that goes. How long did it take you to limit out?

I was in at 8:30 am and off the water by 1 PM. Combat fishing over the weekend. Lots of boats. I'm like you right now. I sold my boat so Im in a small raft with trolling motor till next spring. Just trying to fill my smoker with kokes. Cant hurt with the snubber although I am sure you will still lose some. I always do. Long rod and by the time you throw in leader, dodgers, lures etc....it makes it hard to land with a net with one person so I try my best and grab the line at the leader and flip em in the boat before they get off. I am going out again tomorrow I think depending on weather.
