My first time fishing Curlew lake. I had learned about it a few years ago at a fishing expo (well I guess it was more than a few years ago because the expo was in the king dome). But I decided that it would make a good adventure for this year's fishing trip. My girlfriend and I fished tuesday morning looking to catch some trout...we came up with nothing, not even a bite. Frustrated with the trout we moved into a small bay and started casting medium diving crankbaits. Largemouth bass were biting on nearly every cast. None of them were very large with the biggest being about a pound but they were clearly in aboundance. After listening to the locals and reports about the lake it seems that the trout fishery has been all but abandoned. Pictures of tiger muskies were filling baitshop countertops instead of full trout stringers. The bass fishery definitely has a chance since there is plenty of habitat for them in this lake, if they can co-exist with the muskies. All the fish seemed like planters, with a few that had been there for not much more than a year. Now that the trout are all but dead I hope that at least a good bass fishery can replace them.

The local lakes (Ferry, Swan, Fish and Long) were beutiful. Swan and Ferry have very nice state parks, and are reasonable secluded. I caught a fairly good sized trout just casting from the shore at swan lake, and I bet that there are some nice ones further out. I highly recommend taking a trip to these small lakes.
