This report is my version of a day spent fishing with TheQuadFather .

Chris and I crossed paths at Beaver Lake back in December 17. He did not know me nor me him, but we talked at the ramp after fishing that day. (both of us were skunked that day I remember that) I saw his report and put two and two together that it was indeed, TheQuadFather. I made reference that I meet the one and only Quadfather in his report.

He happen to PM me on Saturday asked about Fishing together and I always welcome the opportunity to meet new people and fish with them to gain as much knowledge as possible I can. He mentioned Beaver Lake knowing that I have submitted some reports with good success there, but I had not been back to that Lake since the first weekend of 2018. I suggested a different local since I knew it was producing some fish if you worked at it. Chris was all in but I was concern about the wind and his electric motor being able to produce the proper speed for trolling. Chris said, no worries I’ll row if I have to.

He must have been chomping at the bit because he arrived 45 minutes early than planned but had to wait for me to help dump the water out of his boat from the driving rain from the trip down. Helped him with that and launch his sweet little Pram. Suggestion...Buy a couple of very large sponges.

Chris had quizzed me about what to bring (I guess he likes to bring everything plus the kitchen sink to a new lake. I told him that I had him covered with my hot lure as I wanted to try a few new colors that I picked up Saturday. I did suggest a fly set up that I don’t think he every even tried, but I saw that a rod was rigged up with it.

It was raining and quite cold Sunday but the lake is pretty sheltered for that days particular strong winds so we lucked out on some good water conditions. Chris did not looked to well dressed for the cold but I was!

I suggested where to fish to Chris while I did some scouting. I think he was messing with his new toy, a mini downrigger because I was off and fishing and caught my first fish while he was still not to far the launch. After about an hour, we crossed by each other and I asked him how he was doing with that hot lure. Nothing he said and I said, not even a strike. No he said. I was shocked as I had 2, lost 2 and had 2 other strikes with new colors that I had never tried anywhere yet.

I directed to where my strikes were while I still prospected the lake. We finally get to point that we could talk and row together after I caught #3. We rowed down the side of the lake and I get 2 more with him getting nothing. After netting the last one, I asked him how he rigged up the crankbait that I gave him. He tells me and I go, oh let’s try a different type of snap that I use. He pulls his line up and I come over to him and it hit me like a ton of bricks....Presentation really is everything! Instantly I cut my main line off of my back up set up and handed Chris the swivel, leader and snap and said, now tie this to your main line and connect the crankbait to the snap and let’s see what happens now!

A short time later it happened as I saw the aerobatic show on display about 20’ behind his boat! (I told him to long line it!) He proceeds to catch 2 more back to back and the whole lake knows about it...wait, I was the only other person on the lake with him.

A short time later I headed in as my hands were wet and cold to dry them off and get new gloves. Chris followed suit and grabbed some lunch while I quickly went back out as I needed to catch 3 more fish for personal weekend record. I see Chris backing his trailer down to the ramp and to load up and he give me a shout on the phone to see if I could help him load up. I had already caught one when he called and one more on the way in. Gave Chris a hand and thanked him for being a trooper and joining me. I was ready to go also but needed that one more fish which I finally got after 5 straight hammer jobs that did not stick or came off quickly. Frustrating when this happens as my hands and feet were very cold. Oh, it started to pour when Chris left and then heavy wet snow.

I knew Chris would be a gamer and he was. I already knew that I was as I have fished every weekend this year...pretty much since I started fished in Nov. 2016. I enjoyed sharing what knowledge I had for this property with Chris and was very happy to see him have some luck and seeing the joy he gets from doing so. It was great to share my one year anniversary fishing with him at this property in which I caught my largest freshwater species to date. See pic.

Chris got 3 Bows and I got 10, plus one pretty beat up Cuttie. Fish were 14” to 16” planters with the Cutt about 17”.

Thanks again for the reach out Chris....let’s do it again. A great example why to be a member of this site.

great story and great fish. I never really had it in my mind when I started the site so many years ago, but this is why. Anglers helping other anglers, friendships formed... life is good. :-)
