Hit Bonaparte for a couple days fishing with my son last Sunday. Stayed at the resort. Got skunked Sunday afternoon and evening. Early morning hours of Monday we got slammed by a huge wind and thunderstorm. Trees down and electricity out. Managed to fire up the little wood stove in the cabin and cook up some coffee and breakfast, then headed to the souh end of the lake to try our luck again. Good choice. Trout were hitting power bait with regularity, when my son hooked something that didn't want to come in. We couldn't believe our eyes when I netted a 7lb Rainbow. Biggest trout either of us had ever caught. A real thrill. Quit fishing about noon with near limits. which also included a nice 16" Brook. Unfortunately we had to pack up and head home that afternoon. The storm had done considerable damage in the area and power wasn't expected to be restored for several days. I felt sorry for the young couple running the resort. Without power. they were dead in the water.

You know you are looking at a serious trout, when the guy is using a ‘Rope ‘ to hold it! Nice job. Love that resort, haven’t been for years.

That’s the second 7+ pound rainbow caught at Bonaparte in last 7 days. Yes that was some storm! Resort power was back Wednesday evening about 7pm. We got trees cleaned up on Tuesday!

i was up there tuesday and the weather was great. That is a great looking fish, and the brook looks nice too. Beaver lake has monster brook trout in it just fyi couple miles down the road. We are going back up this weekend to focus on Kokanee. This is one of the most special places to me personally. I grew up just around the corner from this lake and my earliest memories are here. I even remember when they did fireworks off the barge till it caught fire and sank. That was the end of that. Special place.
