Took a week over in Spokane valley as vacation. On Monday we decided the first lake we would hit would be lake Roosevelt. Left at 6am, got on the water at 8 due too a wrong turn.Launched at Hawk Creek. Water levels low. But we were able to launch. Started out fishing for small mouth. 3rd cat brother landed a little chunky one. Kept on catching little small mouth on a tube. Then I caught 1 on the drop shot. Started marking a bunch of fish on the fish finder. Brother caught a hatchery rainbow on the drop shot. Then switched up to worms on the bottom and caught 2 more hatchery trout. My dad caught a wild 14 inch trout on a crank bait that we released without harm. Stayed in the " canyon " and out in front of the launch, due to howling wind. I tossed out a tube and got smoked a nice solid small mouth. By now the wind had died down to where we could venture out on the main lake. Picked up some little small mouth as we made our way up the shoreline. Had a couple walleye follow in the dropshot. Caught some more small mouth. As the sun rose higher and higher it got hotter and hotter. We decided we should leave so we trolled back to hawks creek. A hoochie tipped with maggots on the down rigger set at 35 feet. And a wedding ring tipped with worm on the normal spinning rod. Trolled all the way back to the canyon. Caught a solid walleye on the normal rod. When we reeled in the down rigger we had a hatchery trout on, who knows how long he was on for. Got to the canyon anchored in the shade and went to work cleaning the fish. I first heard the low hum of a motor, I could hear it bouncing off the canyon walls, it was not slowing down, no, it was getting louder. With no time to pull anchor. We just backed up with the electric motor. Seconds after a 17 foot north river came ripping around the corner luckily we were not in the dead middle or else it would have been a lot worse. We were hit hard with the big wake. Scary experience but glad no one got hurt. Finished up and got off the water around 4:30. Fun way to start the trip !
