Launched out of Ft. Spokane with a plan to troll smiley blades at Lapham's (red barn) at the south end of Porcupine Bay. We trolled from 16-45 FOW with a variety of colors. After an hour and a half with no bites the plan changed.

We headed upriver to the buoy 1 area and started casting jigs as well as drifting down the main channel. After a dink or two I hooked and a nice 8 lb. hen; after weighing her and a quick pick away she went. We also targeted a few areas further upriver and caught quite a few fish but most were dinks. We also caught three burbot and lost a couple of others from a deep hole we actually call the burbot hole, go figure. We eventually made our way up to buoy 5 and after a thorough working of the area without a bite we starting working our way back down river. I also caught 1 smallie that weighed in at a stout 5 lbs.

Total number of walleyes for the day was 36; we only caught 6 that were worth cleaning. Chartreuse and orange jig heads with a green pumpkin red flake grub/worm/swimbait produced all day; if they had a chartreuse tail all the better.

The water visibility in porcupine bay is a muddy 6 inches; further upriver it increases to about 18 inches and the water has green tint. Both lanes at the Ft. Spokane launch are now open but I would still recommend the one on the left until the water comes up a bit.

Thanks for another useful report. My problem is I need to stop reading reports and start making some. Always appreciate when you clear up some of the references points. I know Porcupine and buoy 5 and based on your last report I think I have buoy 1 pegged. Don't have my bow mount trolling motor on yet but almost ready to go.
