I thought I'd make a trip to Ward for the first time this year with my buddy Warren. We headed to the lake around 8:30 and fished till 2. We put a few lures out to see if there were signs of Kokanee life. Unfortunately didnt really graph any schools, and had no takers on the kokanee rods. We did manage to catch some nice cutthroat on a pink needlefish and a gold with flo orange needlefish. The fish came on the surface and at 14ft trolling 1.6mph. It was a nice rainy day on the lake.

I fish Ward several times a year and have recently been out there testing my new fishing setup. It's the closest Kokanee lake for me but I have never had luck. Other people I have talked with about the lake also seem to not catch Kokanee there. It seems to be consistently stocked so I wonder what the issue is? With this Lake being so unproductive and Summit having constant algae bloom issues the options in this area for Kokanee fishing are limited to say the least.

Yeah, 2016 was the last time I caught kokanee in the lake. I dont think wdfw is actually stocking it like they say. I sent an email and got the most generic response from them refering me to the stocking plan but not responding to my question. If they were planting with 30k a year we would be seeing a few landed. I guess we drive to lake Stevens they have plenty to catch!
