Launched at Salsbury to head up into area 9 for some bottom fish, have not been flounder fishing in a while and figured the weather would be perfect for it. I was right in a way- we hit the bay just south of Port Ludlow and were into our first fish with the first drop of the line. The flounder bite was very light and my fishing partner ended up switching from the medium action to the ultra light just to detect the slightest nibble. Wasn't necessary though as we were bringing a fish into the boat every time the line went down just about. The flounder were mostly on the small side, with the largest being about 18", but it was a great time being able to hook into bottom fish so easily. My partner almost regretted his switch when he played a decent sized dog fish into the boat on a 6 lbs test ultra light rod- lesson is you never know what might bite in the sound. I ran 20 lbs line to a 2oz banana weight with about 2 feet of leader to either a hoochie or a red grub with an artificial egg and was hooking up just fine. The bite was great anywhere from 105 to 45 feet, any shallower and there was nothing.

As an aside, I had some trout to smoke and tossed the flounder fillets in on a whim- they were better than the trout! Now, the trout were small hatchery guys that a friend brought to me, but man the flounder fillets took to the soy sauce brine really well. Highly recommended.
