My friend Tom and I headed down south to meet and fish with David Newby, local lake expert. We met at daybreak and headed over to the west end of the lake to fish some shallow channels. We were fishing in two boats, Dave was a gracious host and gave us first water all day. He showed us right away that he knows his lake by rapidly hooking and landing about four nice bass. Meanwhile, Tom and I struggle to get one bite between the two of us. Things slowed down and we spent the rest of the day taking a tour of several spots throughout the lake. We fished any number of methods but sad to say the fish really turned off as the morning progressed. Tom managed one small bass and Dave got a few more, including a nice (if somewhat skinny) bass caught right in front of us while he was flipping a pig-n-jig. It was a great day on the water even if the fishing was slow (for us). I think Dave caught around 8-9 fish when we left at 1pm. Thanks Dave for showing us around this wonderful bass lake!
