My son and I were seeking perch. The water temp was 55, sunny with a breeze on the lake.
I spent 12-1pm looking in the wrong places. I headed to the south end of the lake where I saw a school on the fish finder. I anchored and then John Knutson motored up to us. While I talked with him and he gave us a small perch to use for bait, my son nearly knocked me in the face with his little fish. We moved a bit further south and I saw my sons’ rod dipping a little as he started to get bites. I got a few but I (he) remembered the day that he baited my hooks and they were the only fish I caught and so I let him and I caught 2. I baited my own hooks and got a small one that I let go toward the end of the day. My son out caught me again. I think we kept 5 of his. The time that we were fishing we found worms were just as effective as perch for bait.
Has anyone found perch with yellow flesh before?

Regarding the yellow perch... yes. They show up about one per trip maybe. Don't know what they are from, I personally don't eat the yellow ones but I have friends who do.

John Knutson, the fishing jedi-master. Great times with your son.

Loved the video! Looks like you have a good sized pc of perch meat on there. Try a smaller pc with a crappie jig, fished with a dropshot it works pretty stellar and might be easier to hook up.

Agreed. Use a drop shot with a 1/4oz weight and crappie jig or bare hook. We use strips of perch meat, maybe and inch long. The drop shot lets you impart more action without moving the bait as much. Perch in the winter seem to have more of a reaction bite. So small quick movements tricks em. Good luck out there

Toni: You used to post reports about kokanee/rainbow fishing in American. Have you given up on fishing for those?

Bilgewater I tried American the last time I went out not expecting any kokanee but thought there might be trout. Hardly anything. Of course American is a large lake and I might have gone to the wrong end. I think I saw one trout. I have given up on kokanee in Pierce County except for Alder Lake. The last 2 years I haven't fished too much because of health. This year has been a bit better.
