Well, it was time to hang up the drift boat oars, and head a few thousand miles towards the equator to warm the bones and rejuvenate the soul.

My family and I spent a week on a tropical island in the pacific, starting the day before thanksgiving. Since we don’t have the option to select that area for location fished, I chose the most obscene location for the warm water fish I was after. I’ve had this wild looking fish on my bucket list for a long, long time and the stars finally aligned to let it happen. I am going to keep the promise I made to my good friend who makes his living at this, by keeping specific location and gear used to myself. However, if you ever get the chance to go with someone that knows a thing or two about catching warm water pelagic fish, specifically Mahi Mahi, DO IT! They are incredibly powerful, acrobatic, and flat out mind blowing in the way they change colors throughout the battle.. Needles to say, It was an absolute riot!

Dorado are on my bucket list, almost went to Costa Rica last winter. Nice fish!

Thanks man! They are by far the most beautiful, strong willed and acrobatic fish I’ve ever encountered. Keep in mind, you can find them much closer than Costa Rica. We caught 61 of them that day. Absolutely surreal! I thought fighting belts were a joke until this trip.
