Went and fished several spots below the town of Touchet on the Walla Walla today with my son and his friend. We didn't see any fish but it turned out to be a really nice day of fishing, weather was pleasant for this time of year. There is some volume, about 300 cfs, about 40 deg, and quite clear. The rains last night really didn't amount to anything, but it started raining good again this afternoon. Hopefully we'll get some colored flow to bring the fish in. Tough to get around along the banks in places, but pretty easy fishing, only wading to my shins in places.
My son bought a fly outfit so we threw egg sucking leaches for a while as he learned to cast. He did well, we'd been to the park the day before.
The boys then switched to bobber and shrimp rigs drifting all the possible spots. I worked ahead or behind with spoons and spinners. The water looked great just no fish yet I guess.

Thanks for the report MGTom! I live thru your steelhead reports and photos of the river. It's been a few years since we floated the Clearwater but that doesn't stop my dreams of steelies!
It's a bit of a drive from Colville, but when you reports heat up I may see you on the river. Keep yur tip up! Capt. Todd.

Thanks for the nice comment. Steelhead fill my dreams this time of year. I enjoy the reports from you guys up north, my son and I are going to pull the boat up and chase those big rainbows some day (and the eye's too). I also enjoy the west side reports as I grew up over there. I really appreciate Mike and the guys who run this site. I'll keep you posted on SE Washington, and I'll let you know how it goes, chrome or no. Now that I teach part time I'll be exploring/learning my area and I'll share what I learn.
