Three of us went to Fish Lake yesterday and all got our limits, although it took until later in the afternoon for all of us to get limits. We tried fishing a few spots, and found one area where the fish were consistently bigger. In that spot there were a few times where the fish finder showed giant schools moving through, and the water was full of fish from about 14' to the bottom at 40'. We caught a lot of small fish that went back in to grow bigger, but it amazed me just how many perch are in this lake. We actually would have limited sooner if we had stayed at the original location, but one of my buddies wanted to try different locations in search of bigger fish.

The ice was about 8" of mostly white ice. The temperatures were below freezing to start the day, but warmed up to the upper 40s or so, with a warming breeze, so we guessed that the ice may hold for about a week, at most, unless a cold front comes in. I suspect Fish Lake will be very busy this weekend, as it may well be the last chance to ice fish here this season.

Any bait we used got bites. We had tiger worms, mealworms, maggots and wax worms, and they all worked. I mostly stuck with one of those baits, but my buddies switched to perch eyes, which worked well too. I used eyes on my deadstick, mainly so that I didn't have to keep rebaiting the hook. Everything worked today. We were mainly using Swedish Pimples, but my deadstick had a moonglow jig that got consistent bites.
