Split the trip down the middle this week by putting in at Keller. Very few rigs in the lot indicating to me the fishing might be slow. Headed up river to multiple popular kokanee locations and was surprised to find very little action nor presence of fish on the sonar. Boated just 1 trout the first hour and headed upstream a couple miles. Started getting some action though not hot and heavy and completed the day with just under 20 consisting of a nice mixed bag of hatchery fish, some nice sized natives and finally, albeit small fish, a limit of kokanees. Fish were high in the water column. Am not expecting a good kokanee bite in March given the much higher water elevation forecast of twenty plus feet above average. We'll see what happens. Regardless its nice to finally get a few Silver Bullets.

For whatever species you are targeting, tight lines... Nice weather ahead.

Thanks for the latest on Kokanee fishing! You finally got a couple!
Have you, or anyone you know, ever caught a clipped Kokanee on Roosevelt? The regs say 5 a day but only 2 with adipose fin intact.
Have you heard of any Kokanee being released into or being reared on Roosevelt?
The last hatchery was at Sherman Creek but it closed a decade ago.
Just asking if anyone has ever caught a clipped Kokanee?

The Spokane Tribe "stocks" kokanee into Lake Roosevelt, however, they allegedly reduced the amount they stock every year starting a few years ago

I have caught a couple way up the Spokane. One of the Technicians for the Tribe told me they speculate that a lot of the kokanee they planted go over the dam. Of the fish they tagged, one was caught in Lake Wallula near the Tri-cities. He said there have been tagged lake roosevelt trout caught as far down as below John Day. And here's a really interesting one for you. They tagged and released some chinook years back; (if I remember right) it was either below Long Lake Dam or LIttle Falls. One of those fish ended up in the Ocean and was caught near Ilwaco!

Thanks Kastmaster for the info. So, have you caught a Kokanee with a clipped adipose fin? Do you have a photo of a clipped Kokanee? Anyone else out there have a photo?
I seem to get a different answer every time I ask the same question.

I haven't caught many the last couple of years but there were two or three where I caught quite a few. Have never seen a clipped Kokanee.

I've never personally seen fin clipped kokanee but they do exist, some past reports showed pics of them, and member uplandsandpiper posted video last spring at which time he caught a bonus clipped koke.
