Great first family fishing trip of the year. Spectacle lake opened April 1st. I had heard some rumors of good size Kokanee around 16”. We only had a couple hours to fish. The wind was blowing pretty good. Any harder at times and it wouldn’t have been do-able.
We caught and released 4 RBT, the hot lure of the day was a little 2” Gold/ black top minnow like a rapala, but different brand. I did manage to catch a RBT on a FORD Key chain I made into a spoon! First time out it works like a charm!
Speeds between 1.3-1.9 got pushed around a bunch by the wind. The I-pilot rocks on the bow-mount Minnkota.
I didn’t see much on the fish finder. With the choppy water and cold temperatures, I think the fish stayed in the top l0-15 feet. Even though it was mid day and sunny.
Right after turning to troll back to the boat launch we got a good bite on the surface rod. I could tell it was a better fish and it really tried to stay down compared to the planter rbt we had let go so far. Well as it turns out this is my PB Kokanee. My boys have each just hit the 18” mark, and now I can join the 18” Kokanee Club. This is a spring, true 18”er. By fall 20-21”?!?

Whats the largest Kokanee you have ever caught? Drop it in the comments. LR Kokes don’t count...
