Went with Glenn to Potholes. We launched out of the state park and went to some humps that have been productive in the past. After 2 hours of jigs, jigging raps and a casting spoon all we had to show for it was 2 largemouth. Off to troll we went. Trolling smile blades was also slow at first but as the sun started warming up the water the bite picked up. At first a green blade was best but eventually gold and pink were better. 10 to 14 FOW off the face of the dunes and 1 mph. Caught over 30 eyes and cleaned a nice limit of eaters. We also caught 12 bullheads, 6 bluegills and several nice perch. Best time was between 1100 and 1300.

Great to hear fishing is still good there. We were there in Aug and was not enough water to launch a boat at state park. Maybe 1.5 ft at the dock. I needed at least twice that to get boat off trailer.

Sounds like the dunes are where it at this time of year.

The water is about 4 feet higher now. I also had a hard time laughing my boat a month ago

In your pictures it looks like you bleed your walleye?

FSHINLEGEND - Yes we bleed them. We cut their gills about 30 minutes before we head back to the launch. In hot weather, Glenn will bring a cooler full of ice. In that case we cut the gills right after we catch them, let them bleed out and then put them on ice. Cutting them sure makes for nicer fillets.

Mark, I fish the humps in november through decemberin front of the dunes, before ice. i marked a bunch of plastic boxes or pipes they put out for structure. did you hook up on them are they still there ?

Buc, they are all over the place. We marked the ones near where we were trolling so we could avoid them. We found some nice shallow humps and points that are free of them.

Nice report Mark..I just returned from Banks. Limited 3 days in a row but the fish were smallish. Sounds like potholes is the place right now.

You can't beat Potholes for variety that's for sure

I was looking to come out there from the westside in the next two weeks or so...should the fishing be pretty good then? We'd be aiming for walleye....had mixed results this year in May/June with unusual weather and high waters.

Any advice? We'd be on a boat so can get around.

Potholes should be good for the next few weeks, at least until the weather gets really cold. The water temperature last week was still in the 60s; as it drops down in to the 50s the bite should only get better. The cold water will probably drive the bait fish deeper so when that happens, the humps away from the face of the dunes should produce. In previous years a silver blade bait was my go to lure. For smile blades, try green. Gold and pink for starters. 6 to 14 FOW has been where I have recently had the best luck.

Aweseome - thanks Mark; curious - what size blade bait do you typically use?
