My partner Nick Snow and I had school off yesterday for MLK day. We eagerly arranged a trip to Kapowsin Lake. We launched my 10' fiberglass boat with a trolling motor at 7:38 in the morning from Erickson's Boat Launch. An icy, thick fog blanketed the lake. This limited visibility to about 15' to 20' just enough room to see and dodge stumps. The water temperature was a frigid 38* which made the fishing excruciatingly hard. We "snail" trolled worms, red and green wedding rings, silver Dick Nites and pop gear with all the previously mentioned rigs for hours. This produced nothing; not even a bite. When the sun blessed us with its' presence at about 12:45 or so, we began to rig up to stalk panfish and bass. We worked about a mile of shoreline including the island 'til 4:00 with no avail. On the way back to the launch my trolling motor hit a stick and died. Making the best of the situation I rigged up for perch and drifted until we got the motor to work again. Finally, after repeated tries we tried the Russian way, hitting it until it turns on. To my surprise it worked. And we went back. After all that I only got one subtle tap on my worm and then it was gone. The day was over but we still had fun. We'll be back in the spring to catch some bass. 'til then good luck!
