I usually shy away from lakes on opening day; however, my partner insisted we go and try for Tripoloid Rainbow Trout. When we arrived about 0730, it was already a zoo. Scads of fishermen ( I am not PC) both on the banks and in boats. We started out by trolling just worms. We caught only the small planters. We were able to release most of them without their bleeding, we keep the bleeders because they were going to die anyway. We them tried wedding rings, still only small ones. Tried Pop-gear, still only small ones. Them we anchored and fished with power bait. We caught seven triploids in the one to two pound range; we would have caught 10 Trip's but had those first three bleeders to keep.
I still don't like fishing on opening day.
