My family and I go up to Curlew Lake every summer (mid Aug)(for the
last 15 yrs). We have stayed at Pine Point Resort every year, I highly
recommend it. Nice cabins, clean resort, well managed and friendly
staff. I focus on bass and usually do pretty well because I know the
lake so well. It is a good bass lake if you don't mind smaller bass.
Largemouth's are every where you turn. The lake doesn't have the rocks
that Smallmouths prefer, so you'll have to pray on Ol' Mossy.
I find that because it is an extremely clear lake the fishing gets
better just after the sun drops behind the mountains (morning and
evening). This is because the bass don't have eye lids and the sun is
too bright. When they come up to feed at these two times I like to
throw the 9cm floating Rapla; I find that rainbow trout works the best.
If you're looking for excitement throw top waters. Throw a stick bait
and walk the dog. This bait is exciting. Sometimes the slower the
presentation the better. There have been MANY times where I have left
my bait just sitting on top of the water and the bass strike so
aggressively they literally knock 4'' into the air, and come back for it
when it lands.
Because it is such a great trout lake a lot of people will try to
give you bass tips, while using trout mentality. Don't let them tell
you that you have to use small lures, because that simply isn't true,
but don't get carried away.
Good luck, and release a few for me when I get there next August
