Well, here we are , just about in the middle of winter and I and a friend get the urge to find a quiet, out of the way lake to fish. Actually I'm fairly familar with this water, but this is a little early and the weather is unpredictable most of the time. But once in awhile you get lucky. I was thinking that I must be into a little crazy as I dug my smaller boat out of it's snowy berth.
Some two hours later I was happy to see open water, and no ice. As we launched I noted the surface water temp. to be 38.5 degrees, brrr! A cold wind was blowing out of the south, making the air seem a lot colder than the water below. The bite was slow but got better and we we able to pick up several nice 'bows around 16 -18 inches, all nice n' fat , with beautiful color. We quickly released them unharmed.
All in all it was a great first day lake fishing.
This morning more snow fell, so it'll be awhile before I can get back out, but come the next weather break, I'll be back.
