I'm a bit late with this report, but see none for this lake. I was camping at Banks Lake and wanted to hike in here for years. Sunny warm (80 degree) day was perfect. It's about a 5 mile r/t hike up Northrop Canyon through some gorgeous country. This area is all within the Steamboat Rock State park now. You follow the old homestead road for about a mile to a large meadow and farm. There's a small stream alongside the road the length of the meadow and about the last 200 yards a small streamlet runs down the road. I walked up on 4 rattlers in this stretch!......The second one was HUGE and a good 5ft or more. The road gets so muddy that you need to get off the road and follow the trail through the tall grass. That took some nerve after seeing all those snakes. I spoke with a local in town and he said that area is famous for snakes.

Signed hiking trail starts to the left of the old chicken coop and climbs steeply in spots through rock and pine. Several small ponds are passed with some nice views when you reach the ridge top in the valley. I was surprised how small this lake is. Not much more than a pond, maybe 1.5 acs. Water is clear and cold and I could see 3-4 nice trout swimming along the reeds. There's very limited casting room, so you really need a float tube or small raft to fish this effectively. I fished for about 1 hr with a spinner and c&r 8-10 nice fat 12-16 inch bows. Hike back out was hot and dusty and I just about flew through the snake zone. No snakes on the way out, so I breathed a sigh of relief.
