Don't let the word summertime fool you. Leech lake with wind and clouds overhead can make for a very cold day even if it's July. So remember to dress warm! Fishing was fair as I think the fish by this time have grown tired of seeing all those insects with hooks attached to them. I caught a lot of brookies but I had to work for them. In addition to the brooks I landed one 18 inch triploid and managed to lose two others. The fish wanted action so all the fish I caught were on a nymph using short erratic strips with a pause here and there. The brooks all hit the nymph hard but the triploids were soft bitters. When the wind stopped and the water calmed the fish hit caddis on the surface. As soon as the wind picked up and the water surface became rocky it was back to nymphs. OH one more thing. I lost at least three fish who managed to get tangled up in the weeds. The weeds or millfoil or whatever you call it is becoming a major problem in some areas of the lake.
