I have come to really love using Google Earth to scout a lake I have never fished for those features that look conducive to holding fish or to see things like underwater islands and flats that you don't see easily from behind the wheel of a boat.

6/27/2012 7:02:00 AMflashearth.com is another good website to use when scouting out new areas. I use it for the upper Columbia river (Lake Roosevelt), a lot of the photos were taken when the water was down about 60' so it is a great way to find structure.

6/27/2012 7:33:00 AMHey, thanks Mark, I'll check out that site. We love to fish Lk Roosevelt and try to get over there at least twice a year. We usually get to fish it in the spring when the water is low and get to see some of the stuff that you don't see when the water is up. I will mark rock piles and other features on my Lowrance when I see them for when we return in the fall and the water is up. Our last trip over at the beginnin of June was great but the fish weren't where they were supposed to be (coming into their spawning beds) so we had to switch things up but we had a good time and found the fish in other areas.

6/28/2012 6:55:00 AMI had a excellent spring going after walleyes this year. March-April on Rufus was outstanding, we had a hard time catching fish small enough to keep. May June at Kettle was fantastic as well, we had several days where between three of us we boated 150 walleyes a day with the average size about 20". The Spokane Arm is still not quite back to where it should be. The drawdown and rapid refill last year really screwed it up. Flashearth has a lot of areas on it that where captured during the low water level, especially south of Kettle. Anybody who is interested in the structure needs to look at it.

6/28/2012 8:11:00 AMFunny you mention Spokane Arm as that is where we were fishing this year. Our friends live just minutes from Porcupine Bay so that is where we put in. The bass just weren't where they usually find them. We did get one nice Walleye but mistakenly thought the arm was closed to them which it isn't this year for some reason, so we threw it back. Up river a bit my friend hooked into a nice 4lb trout hanging on a rock wall. It wasn't till we went down stream from Porcupine and started fishing the smaller coves rock walls that we found the bass but once we did we could throw anything at them and they would take it. Those slot restrictions get me every time too. We like to have one bass dinner a year and all the rest go back but I always catch the 13"ers. Would love to get some walleye for dinner sometime though.
